Habits that increase the chance of getting coronavirus
The coronavirus pandemic that has swept the whole world has forced people to reconsider their attitude to many things. What previously seemed natural and harmless, such as shaking hands and hugs, became undesirable and even dangerous. But experts in epidemiology believe that no matter how hard we try, almost all of us make mistakes that increase the likelihood of becoming infected with COVID-19 infection. What habits do you need to get rid of to reduce the risk of getting sick?
Smoking
This habit, in itself very harmful, becomes an additional risk factor during an epidemic. The relationship between smoking and the risk of infection has not been studied well enough, but there is absolutely reliable information that smokers have a more acute illness.
In the midst of the epidemic in China, scientists analyzed the course of the disease in more than 1000 patients and found that among those who had a severe illness, one in four smoked, and only one in ten among “mild” patients. Fans of "raise" have a higher chance of being in intensive care.
Habit of biting nails
Those who bite the nails touch the mucous membrane with their hands. Obviously, this is one of the surest ways to bring the insidious coronavirus into the body. At the same time, chances are growing not only for those who indulge in this habit outside the home, but also for those who like to bite their nails at home.
Even if you make every effort to disinfect, the COVID-19 infection can be on the most problematic surfaces of your home — door handles, gadgets, a computer keyboard, and clothes. The entry of coronavirus into the body is more likely in those who pull their hands in their mouths.
Touching face
The habit of rubbing your chin thoughtfully or supporting your head with your hand can play a bad joke with you. Unconscious movements that we do every hour several times help the coronavirus to penetrate our body.
You can accidentally infect the mucous membranes, and in this case, infection is almost guaranteed. Therefore, it is worth setting a goal and, finally, getting rid of the habit without having to touch the face, which has recently turned into a bad one.
Personal hygiene
WHO experts continue to insist that thorough washing of hands with soap and disinfection of their alcohol-containing antiseptics is an essential part of preventive measures during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Despite the fact that coronavirus is transmitted by airborne droplets, it easily settles on the surface and can live on them for up to 4 days. Touching the handrail in public transport, the elevator button or the door handle can cause infection on the skin of the hands, and from it on the mucous membranes. Therefore, it is now very important to wash your hands as often and thoroughly as possible, especially after visiting public places.
Careless attitude to your health
Many of us are used to ignoring the symptoms of the common cold and, in the absence of a high fever, continue to go to work as if nothing had happened. Today, such carelessness threatens not only your health and life - it applies to all people around you.
If you feel unwell - stay at home and try to narrow your circle of communication as much as possible. Weakness, fever and dry cough are not necessarily signs of a dangerous illness, but an important reason to call a family doctor or the hot line for questions of coronavirus.
Permanent Internet Browsing
The human brain is designed in such a way that we respond to negative information much more sharply than to positive. Agree that there have been so many bad news lately that the Internet is just drowning in them. The result of constant monitoring of news sites and social networks in such a situation can be chronic stress.
Scientists have long proven that a stressed person has a reduced immunity and is more susceptible to attacks of all kinds of infections. Today, this is exactly the situation when the body's resistance to diseases is very important, so try to protect yourself from network negativity.
"Hang" in the smartphone
A smartphone today is not only a source of bad news (see the previous paragraph), but also an immediate threat of infection. Microorganisms settle on the gadget's body with pleasure, among which there is a place for the coronavirus.A smartphone that has been on the street, and especially in a transport or store, cannot even theoretically stay clean if you pick it up at least once. You can wash your hands in the most thorough way, but all your efforts will be in vain if you do not process your smartphone at the same time. Try to use mobile devices on the street as little as possible and make a good habit of disinfecting them.
Shopping
Shopping will put you at risk of getting infected, and there will be two dangerous factors. The first is a significant number of people near you, among whom the carrier of the infection may well be. The second is the abundance of all kinds of objects that many people have touched.
Aimless shopping today has turned into extreme entertainment. The pleasure of shopping in no way justifies the risk to which you expose yourself and your loved ones. Try to come to stores only for a specific purpose and spend as little time as possible there. The ideal option during quarantine is home delivery of products, which is offered by almost all outlets today.
Giving up sleep
Now, when many are on forced leave or working from home, the issue of the regime is gradually losing its relevance. We stay up late at the computer, watch favorite TV shows at night and catch up on lost work time when it is necessary to relax.
An indisputable fact is that people who do not get enough sleep are more susceptible to respiratory viral infections, and hence COVID-19. Moreover, patients accustomed to little sleep recover much more slowly and are more likely to get serious complications. Sleeping for 8 hours is a great way to strengthen your body in the fight against coronavirus.
Contact with other people
As we already said, coronavirus is transmitted by airborne droplets. This means that it is most likely to get infected by him from another person when communicating or just being around. Therefore, no matter how well you relate to your friends, try to keep a distance of at least a meter when meeting.
Do not forget that the WHO warns that a patient with a coronavirus does not necessarily sneeze and cough - for many, the disease goes away without symptoms. In addition, people who do not yet have clear signs of illness and are unaware of health problems can spread the virus.
